Audiovisual & Media Translation

Subtitle files, dubbing scripts, voice-over guides, corporate video transcription. Audiovisual translation works within constraints that document translation does not encounter: timing, on-screen space, and the rhythm of spoken delivery.

How this works

Subtitles are not translated scripts. They are constrained texts that must fit on two lines of no more than 42 characters each, read at a comfortable speed (no more than 17 characters per second in standard broadcast practice), and remain in sync with the speaker. A subtitle that takes two seconds to read but appears on screen for four seconds reads differently than one that requires five seconds but disappears in two. We produce subtitle files in all standard formats: SRT for online platforms, VTT for HTML5 environments, EBU-STL and TTML for broadcast. For dubbing scripts, we work from the original audio to produce a transcript first, then a translation that is timed to the original speaker rhythm and adapted for the target language so that synchronisation with lip movement is achievable. For corporate video and e-learning, we translate scripts directly and can coordinate with voice artists for full production if required.
